Handmade Oak Staircases

Stairs can be the main focus of a room or an entire home, giving splendour and glory from the moment the eye contact is made to the inevitable of reaching out and touching the beautiful tactile finish and feel of the real Hand Crafted Oak.

Although all of our Hand Crafted stairs are individual, we have over the years developed our open staircases made from an over indulgent 3” kiln dried oak for both the strings and treads, both of which are finished in the traditional way by using an age old method of drawing the edges with a draw knife and then hand sanding.

Straining treads are added as both a feature and for structural stability driving through the strings, and holding fast with hand made pegs driven through the tails.  The balusters again have the arises removed with a draw knife giving a wonderful random chamfer, this is repeated on the hand rails, jointing between the balusters, hand rails and strings is usually achieved by ploughing out a rebate, to house the balusters with in-fills cut to fit between each giving maximum security and effect.  The newel posts are cut from well-seasoned oak, the section of these chosen to compliment the dimensions of your stairs, with an elaborate Hand Crafted bull nosed bottom step to complete the visual effect.

Stairs can be made as rustic or formal as your requirements demand.  We are here to help advise or create the joinery products of your dreams – the only limitation is your imagination.
